Sebagai seorang Presiden Amerika Serikat, Donald Trump kerap mendapatkan kecaman karena retrorika anti-Muslimnya.
Ia juga mengeluarkan banyak aturan terkait dengan pengawasan Masjid di Amerika Serikat hingga dengan adanya larangan untuk para Muslim dalam memasuki wilayah negara Amerika Serikat atas nama keamanan nasional.
Namun di ujung masa bulan Ramadhan pada hari Sabtu (24/06/17), Presiden Amerika Serikat Donald Trump mengirimkan sebuah ucapan Selamat Idul Fitri kepada seluruh umat Muslim yang ada di dunia.
“Atas nama seluruh rakyat Amerika Serikat, Melania dan saya mengirimkan salam hangat kepada Umat Islam yang turut merayakan Idul Fitri,” katanya dalam sebuah pernyataannya.
Selama bulan ini, kita semua pastinya diingatkan akan pentingnya rasa belas kasih, rasa kasih sayang dan juga niat baik.
Dalam pernyataannya tersebut, Donald Trump juga mengungkapkan janji barunya untuk kembali menghormati nilai-nilai keislaman.
“Bersama dengan seluruh umat Islam di seluruh dunia, Amerika Serikat akan memperbaharui komitmen untuk menghormati nilai-nilai ini,”
Sejak pemerintahan Bill Clinton, setiap tahunnya Gedung Putih selalu menggelarkan sebuah acara Perayaan Idul Firi sebagai sebuah tanda untuk mengakhiri builan Ramdhan. Namun semua hal tersebut mulai berbeda sejak dipegang oleh pemerintahan Donald Trump.
